Celebrations to mark the Kurdish New Year, Newroz, have started in Kobanê town of West Kurdistan, Rojava.

YPG/YPJ fighters have lit fires on Mishtenur hill, the area of celebrations, where two thousand asayish (public security forces) have taken intense security measures.

YPG/YPJ fighters are holding vigil on hills overlooking the area which has been covered with flags of the YPG, YPJ, PYD, TEVDEM and photographs of YPG/YPJ/MLKP fighters martyred in the battle against the ISIS.

Kobanê residents are flocking to the celebration area where YPG/YPJ fighters have lit the first fire of Newroz.

Kobanê Canton President Enver Muslîm, People's Assembly Co-President Ayşe Efendi, canton executives, PYD and TEVDEM officials are also attending the celebration.
