Newroz in Amed kicks off with the march of the youth

Hundreds of thousands of people have started to gather for the historic Newroz celebration in Amed today, which is expected to be the most massive and enthusiastic Newroz celebration ever. Many people from all over the city are reaching the area where the big rally will take place on foot, while the youth started a march from Bağlar district towards the rally field.
This year’s biggest Newroz rally in North Kurdistan is to take place today in Amed, where an important message of the Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan regarding the concrete steps to be taken in the resolution process will be read out. Tens of thousands of people are trying to reach to Newroz area starting from early this morning from all parts of the city, while many people have camped in the area since yesterday evening. This year’s Newroz in Amed has also attracted mass participation from all over North Kurdistan and many other cities of Turkey.
Early this morning the youth held a march starting from DBP Bağlar district branch office to the rally area, carrying the flags of the PKK; KCK, YPG and YPJ while chanting slogans “Long Live Leader Apo”. The youth marched in traditional Kurdish clothes, and were joined by many people in the streets who were on their way to the rally area.
The mass drew applause in entering the rally field and was welcomed by slogans responding to their enthusiasm.
The city centre of Amed is now empty as hundreds of thousands of people continue flocking to the rally area; however there are queues and traffic jams in Kayapınar and Baglar districts because of the mass mobilisation towards the Newroz area.
