Nine people detained in OYAK offices

Police this morning arrested nine people in Ankara following a search at OYAK Security Company. It is understood that the raid and arrests are in connection with the 2006 shooting at the Council of State building. Alparslan Arslan, a lawyer, shot at members of the Council killing a judge. Arslan said he attacked the court to protest a ruling against the headscarf. Later though it was revealed that the lawyer was connected to Ergenekon, the Gladio-style criminal organization accused of working to overthrow the government.

At the time of the attack at the Council, security at the court was provided by OYAK Security Company, which largely employed retired military officers who had served in the Special Forces Command.

In a report by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBÝTAK) in 2010 is was suggested that security camera records from the Council of State building had been destroyed after the 2006 assault. The report also said the council was able to retrieve some of the footage from the cameras.

The examination of security cameras from the Council of State showed that the devices were not out of order when the attack occurred. Something that contradicted what was previously stated.
