Fourteen woman unionists who were taken into custody within the so called KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) operation in Ankara have been interrogated in the prosecutor's office on Thursday. Nine of the women have been remanded in custody.
It has been reported that the prosecutor asked the women questions about legal union activities. "Why did you organize an action on March 8 [International Women's Day]?" apparently asked the prosecutor who also wanted to know why the unions organize a demonstration on November 28, the International Day for the elimination of violence against women?
The charge the women face is being members of an illegal organization.
The union raided on 13 February were Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (KESK), Trade Union of Public Employees in Health and Social Services (SES) and Municipal Workers' Union (TÜMBELSEN).
