No peace for sociologist Selek

No peace for sociologist Selek

There is something very disturbing about the callous prosecution of sociologist Pýnar Selek. Once again, the woman - who now lives in Germany - has seen her acquittal revoked. Selek was first arrested over the deadly explosion at Ýstanbul’s Spice Bazaar in 1998. Selek was acquitted last year but an higher court revoked the acquittal, the third in the case. Prosecutor Mehmet Ali Uysal on Wednesday said Selek should be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

In 2000, Selek was acquitted by the Ýstanbul 12th High Criminal Court due to lack of evidence.
