Number of detainees in Adana increases to 35

At least 35 people have been detained in Monday’s political genocide operation in Adana. Turkish police used violence after turning off cameras during house raids.

Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention warrants for 38 people, citing an ongoing investigation pertaining to the Binevş Culture and Art Association. As part of the investigation, Turkish police carried out political genocide operations at Binevş Cultural Centre and in several other places in Adana, Mersin and Amed. It is reported that police forces broke the doors of houses and beat people during the raids.

DETAINEES

Following the raids, the names below have been detained: People's Democratic Party (HDP) Adana Provincial Co-Chairs Helin Kaya and Mehmet Karakış, HDP Party Assembly members Abdurrahman Oral and Ahmet Yıldız, DBP Çukurova Region Co-spokespersons Şilan Turğa and Enver Güler, Seyhan Municipality Deputy Mayor Funda Buyruk, Binevş Cultural Centre employees İlyas Arzu, Murat Gürbüz, Suat Ekin and Jiyan Savci, HDP Adana provincial executive Ahmet Akdoğan, HDP Youth Assembly member Mazlum Gök, TJA (Free Women’s Movement) activists Emetullah Akçaray and Sever Uzun, Mediterranean Association for Assistance and Solidarity with Families Whose Relatives Disappeared (AYKAY-DER) Co-Chair Süphiye Bayav as well as Jiyan Aslan, Mahsum Uzun, Zilan Çiçek, Mehmet Saruhan, Hayrettin Öz, Mehmet Sait Dikmen, Vakkas Durgut, Evin Özbay, Dilan Yiğit, Gülbahar Akman, Yaşar Akman, Mehmet Solmaz, Bedri Şengül, Zilan Taş, Ayşe Solmaz, Mehmet Aykut, Ramazan Demirhan and 2 people whose names could be learnt.

While the police search at the Binevş Culture and Art Association ended, another police search was carried out in Seyhan Municipality Deputy Mayor Funda Buyruk's office in the municipality building. The detainees are being held at Adana Police Department. TJA activist Zana Çoban is one of the individuals who have not been detained despite a detention warrant. However, the house of Çoban's family in Mersin was raided.

The house of Nafiye Çoban in Mersin was raided even though Zana Çoban was not present. Nafiye Çoban was subjected to strong language, insults and violence by police officers.

In the meantime, another police raid was carried out at the Dicle Culture and Art Association in Amed (Diyarbakır) early in the morning. Police officers conducted a search by breaking the doors of the association’s office at the entrance and inside. They seized a hard disk, a desktop computer, a laptop, books and official documents belonging to the association.
