After the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Elazig, search and rescue activities are continuing in Sürsürü District.

The rescue teams reached one of the 3 people who were under the debris last night. After the intervention of the medical teams, it was stated that the woman died.
In the official statement, the number of dead is reported as 39 but the number could increase.

One of the places where the people spend the night is Elazig Municipality Culture Park on Malatya Street. At least 11 people stay in the 6-people tents. The biggest problem of those staying in tents is the heating. Contrary to the officials' announcement that earthquake survivors were given a sufficient number of blankets and heaters, almost none of the tents had a heater. Furthermore, the provided blankets do not meet the needs of the survivors. The people are burning fires in front of the tents.

Soldiers are guarding the area of the park where the tents are and they state that nobody can enter that area without permission.

Threats to students

Cracks occurred on the walls of Siirt Hassa Hatun girls dormitory as a result of the earthquake. The 300 students staying in the dormitory, which hold 2,000 students, were threatened by the dormitory administration when they shared their concerns about the cracks on social media.

Dormitory executives tried to remove the traces of the earthquake by covering the cracks with plaster. The students photographed the cracks on the walls of the dormitory and shared them on social media. The dormitory direction threatened to expel students and cut scholarships and loans.

Government does not help

The State does not meet the needs of the public, but it also prevents those who want to express their solidarity.

After the HDP delegation visit to 60 villages, Elazig Governorate called the muhtars of these villages and warned them not to accept any aid outside that provided by AFAD.

The HDP delegation announced that after their visit, aid was not delivered to 60 villages and the aid which reached the area was in fact distributed to the relatives of AKP members.

Two trucks of aid sent by the Ergani Municipality for the earthquake victims in Elazig, coordinated by the HDP, was stopped and turned down by the police at the city entrance.
