Öcalan’s lawyers: We promise to march on the path Moosa showed us

"Even though we are experiencing the deep sorrow of losing Essa Moosa, we know that he would want us to persistently continue to strive for justice" said Öcalan’s lawyers in a message of condolences for Moosa.

Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s Lawyers issued a message of condolences for Essa Moosa, South African leader Nelson Mandela’s lawyer who lost his life recently.

The message is as follows:

“We have learned with great grief that our esteemed colleague and dear friend Essa Moosa has passed away.

As Nelson Mandela’s lawyer, he waged a relentless great struggle for law against the Apartheid regime. His fight for rights and freedom continued through solidarity with the resistances everywhere in the world. He extended this solidarity to Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s Imralı trials that started in 1999 and was always with us. In his fight for justice, despite his advanced age, he visited Turkey many times and attempted to visit the İmralı Island, but the Ministry of Justice refused him every time. These negativities never tired him, and even increased his solidarity and support.

In the legal struggle we are in as Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers, Essa Moosa’s struggle and search for justice always inspired us and lighted our way. In this sense, we have learned so much from him and his struggle for justice.

Even though we are experiencing the deep sorrow of losing Essa Moosa, we know that he would want us to persistently continue to strive for justice. We will remember his wish, and promise to march on the path he showed us, as is necessary to be loyal to his memory. We would like to offer our condolences to his family, friends, loved ones, comrades and to the law community.
