Kurdish guerrillas attacked a Turkish special forces checkpoint in Dersim. Local sources said that at least one officer has been wounded in the assault.

Fighting erupted in Batman village, 5 km southeast of Dersim (Tunceli) city centre, at 17h00 as PKK guerrillas attacked the checkpoint with semi-automatic rifles and grenades.

At least one police officer was wounded.

Turkish army launched a large scale operation after the attack. Gunfire can still be heard from the city center.
