At a meeting at Workers’ Education Center, artists in Sweden have taken the first step of a new organization of artists and intellectuals.
The meeting which was held on 26 February in Stockholm was attended by many artists including Armanc, Necmeddin Xulami, Zariya Zerdest, Amele Pirseng.
Making the opening speech of the meeting, Necmeddin Xulami put emphasis on the necessity of artists to be organized to fulfill the major mission that falls to them.
Among the attendees of the meeting, Mehmet Sürmeli called attention to the importance of the organization which consists of artists and intellectuals from all parts of Kurdistan as well as those in Scandinavian countries. Sürmeli said that; “The Kurdish culture and art are facing a great threat and assimilation by not only Middle East countries but also Europe and capitalism itself. We therefore believe in the necessity for an organization in the face of the present situation.”
The meeting which was attended by around 50 artists in the fields of painting, theatre, cinema, composition and music ended up with a decision to hold a new meeting in April to gather greater circles.
