HDP members were attacked by a government-supported fascist group during election works in Erzincan.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Candidate Pınar Aytekin Özgüç and party members went to Mercan town in Tercan district of Erzincan on Wednesday as part of their election campaign.
On their way back to Tercan district following their program in the town, the HDP members were stopped by a group of 40 people who insulted and verbally attacked them.
The group wanted the speech of Demirtaş played from election announcement vehicle to be stopped, and then attacked the vehicle.
Police teams that went to the scene of the incident asked the HDP members to leave the town instead of dispersing the group.
HDP MP Candidate Pınar Aytekin Özgüç said they were subjected to an organized attack, saying; “They surrounded our vehicle in an instant and the police asked us to leave the town.”
Remarking that the people of Erzincan had no reactions against the HDP campaign, Özgüç said; “HDP is a party that embraces the peoples of Turkey. The people of Erzincan also support the HDP.”
Özgüç underlined that; “Nobody should think that we are afraid. Our morale is good because the atmosphere in Erzincan is even better than the period of June 7 elections. This motivates us even more. The assailants are not the people of Erzincan. They are mercenaries of the circles whose concerns over HDP are growing. Still, their attacks will not restrain us from our election works.”
