Support for Imam Sis and his hunger strike of 102 days in Newport, Wales demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan continues to grow.

Politicians from the Labour Party and plaid Cymru as well as activists, trade unionists and academics attended the panel discussion held in Newport on Wednesday.

Professor Sue Williams, trade unionist Cerith Griffiths, trade unionist Marianne Owens, Plaid Cymru Representative Ned Parish, Freedom for Ocalan Campaign Director Matt Nathan and several others spoke in the panel discussion. Speakers called for stronger support for hunger strikes and an increase in solidarity.

The panel discussion started with a minute’s silence and a letter from Imam Sis was read.

Sis thanked the Welsh allies in solidarity and said the Kurdish people will not accept the isolation under any circumstances and are prepared to pay the price.

Ali Poyraz, Nahide Zengin and Mehmet Sait Yilmaz, who have been on an indefinite nonalternating hunger strike in London since March 14, also spoke in the panel discussion.

After the speeches, Kurdish artist Seyda Perincek who was in Wales visiting Imam Sis performed a few songs.

The event was concluded with halay dancing and slogans.
