Parents of Ayşe Deniz Karacagil released

The parents of Ayşe Deniz Karacagil, who fell a martyr in the fight against ISIS in Raqqa, were released this evening on condition of judicial control.

Nuray Erçağan and Ömer Karacagil, the parents of Ayşe Deniz Karacagil (Destan Temmuz) who fell in the operation for Raqqa's liberation, were taken into custody this morning for participating in their daughter's funeral in Kobanê, and have been released this evening.

Karacagil's parents were arrested under the accusation of "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation" for speaking, making victory sign and clenched fist during their daughter's funeral in Kobanê. The parents were later referred to an Istanbul Court in Kartal upon the public prosecutor's issue to arrest them both.

In her testimony, mother Erçağan said: “ISIS killed our people in Ankara, Suruç and Diyarbakır. One day you will also understand how right Deniz is.”

Her father said: “I haven't seen my daughter for years. Her last will was to be buried next to her comrades. It was my last duty to be there.”

The court ruled Erçağan and Karacagil to be released on condition of judicial control.
