The Paris local authority has decided to mount a plaque in memory of the three Kurdish women revolutionaries at the address where they were murdered in La Fayette street on 9 January 2013.
The Paris municipal council took a unanimous decision on Monday 29 September to mount a plaque in memory of the three women after a proposal by Yves Contassot from the European Ecology/Greens group and other Greens.
PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) founder member Sakine Cansız, KNK (Kurdistan National Congress) Paris Representative Fidan Doğan and Kurdish youth movement member Leyla Şaylemez were murdered at the Kurdistan Information Centre on 9 January 2013. Ankara is being held responsible for the murders.
In the first week in September the French government asked for the confidentiality of intelligence data on suspect Ömer Güney to be lifted. The investigating magistrate has also asked the intelligence services for personal dossiers on the 3 women and on the Information Centre.
The Paris Council said: "The Council joins other human rights organisations in commemorating the political murders of these political activists in Paris at the request of friendly Kurdish associations, these murders demonstrating the threat to democracy and freedom of expression in France”. It is not known when the plaque will be mounted at 147 La Fayette street.
