Paris killer placed in solitary confinement

The man who murdered three Kurdish activists in Paris on Friday was placed in solitary confinement.

69-year-old William M., who murdered three Kurdish activists and injured three others in an armed attack on the Kurdish Cultural Center and two Kurdish workplaces in Paris last Friday, has been placed in solitary confinement after his second arrest, reported Franceinfo, citing sources close to the file.

“The nature of the acts committed justifies taking precautionary measures,” the same sources said.

William M. was indicted for "murder and attempted murder on account of race, ethnicity, nation or religion", “unauthorized acquisition and possession of Class B weapons".

Kurds, many political parties and non-governmental organizations demand this attack to be defined as a "terrorist attack" and the anti-terrorism prosecutor to conduct the investigation.

Taken into custody after getting caught with his gun shortly after the attack on 23 December, the killer saw the detention order lifted one day later. The Paris Prosecutor's Office reported that the murderer was taken to the Paris Police Department Psychiatric Hospital, citing his health. He was hospitalized in the psychiatric infirmary of the police headquarters.

"The doctor who examined the respondent at the end of the afternoon declared that the state of health of the person concerned was not compatible with the measure of police custody", the statement said, adding that "the police custody measure has therefore been lifted pending the presentation of the defendant before an investigating judge when his state of health allows it."

The murderer was detained again on Sunday afternoon after it was decided that he was suitable for detention in the clinic affiliated to the police. On Tuesday, the killer was placed in pre-trial detention.
