The freedom marches, which started from three centers in Europe, ended with a march and rally in Strasbourg on February 15.
The Freedom March that started in Paris on 22 January, the Internationalist March that started in Basel on 11 February and the Journey to Freedom that started in Mannheim, Germany on 9 February met in Strasbourg, France yesterday. The day marks the 25th anniversary of the international conspiracy of 15 February 1999 when Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan was abducted in Kenya and handed over to Turkey, where he has been held in isolation since.
The marchers gathered at Place Dauphin and staged a march to the Council of Europe. Along the way, the activists informed the public about the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and the international conspiracy of February 15.
The activists, who consistently protested against the Turkish state and the current AKP - MHP fascist government, concluded the march in front of the Council of Europe 7 kilometers away.
During the rally that followed, speeches were made condemning the international conspiracy and its international connections.
The importance of Abdullah Öcalan's paradigm of ecology, women's freedom and democratic modernity was highlighted in the speeches, which also stated that capitalist modernity poses a great threat to all living life.
The speeches also emphasized the struggle of the Kurds and all the oppressed peoples for a free and equal life and once again demanded Abdullah Öcalan's freedom.
The activists are holding a conference on Abdullah Öcalan today.
The first part of the conference was attended by TJK-E (Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe) member Medya Botan and Zülfü Bingöl from the Freedom for Öcalan Initiative.
Medya Botan discussed the struggle of the Kurdish people and women from the first day of the international conspiracy until today.
"Leader Öcalan is the will of the Kurds. The international conspiracy was developed against the Kurdish people in his person ", said Medya Botan and talked about the protests and actions carried out by the Kurdish people against the international conspiracy under the motto "You cannot darken our sun".
Referring to the ongoing hunger strikes in Turkish prisons demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, Medya Botan underlined that the Kurdish people will not give up their struggle until Öcalan is freed.
Zülfü Bingöl talked about the beginning phase of the conspiracy and the process of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Rome, one of the most important steps of the conspiracy.
Zülfü Bingöl said, "In Rome, internationalists formed a circle around the Leader for 10 days. The people of Rome showed great solidarity with the Kurdish people. For 10 days, the internationalists stood by the Kurdish people who flowed to Rome against the conspiracy. They met all their needs and organized actions."
Bingöl stated that Abdullah Öcalan told him "The people of Europe do not understand us for now. But their youth will understand us very well," and pointed out that the internationalists who staged the Freedom March and those who were martyred in Rojava are the proof of this assessment.
In the second part of the conference, Ömer Güneş, one of the lawyers of Asrın Law Office, will be the guest. Güneş will talk about how the Imralı Torture System has been operated since the first day of the conspiracy; the extent of systematic torture; the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the Turkish state's violation of its own constitution and international law.
