Starting from the very early hours of the morning, people have gathered in cemeteries where they also celebrated each other’s Eid. While children reluctantly took the candies offered to them, they left the flowers they had brought with themselves, instead of candy bags, on the graves of the fallen fighters.
While the town was under the attacks of ISIS gangs during previous Eids, people of Kobanê welcomed this Eid for the first time in an environment void of conflict; however they flocked to cemeteries to visit the graves of those civilians who were massacred by ISIS gangs on June 25.
People marched to cemeteries following the Eid prayer in mosques earlier this morning. The two Martyrs’ cemetaries, Martyr Dicle Cemetary and Kobanê Massacre Cemetary located in different parts of the town, received thousands of people from all ages visiting the graves of fallen YPG/YPJ fighters and their relatives. While the women were chanting mourning requiems, children left flowers on the graves and had emotional breakdowns.
