Clashes broke out early this morning between special anti-terror teams that encircled the Kısla and Orman neighbourhoods of Hakksri's Gever (Yüksekova) district with armoured vehicles and the local people who did not allow the anti-terror teams raid houses in these neighbourhoods.
There has been an increase in house raids and police repression in Yüksekova district of Hakkari following the enactment of the internal security package. While 6 people were detained in house raids the previous night in Yüksekova, police besieged the Kışla and Orman neighbourhoods with armoured vehicles to raid the houses at dawn around 04:00. Noticing the activity of the police force in the neighbourhoods, people reacted to the siege by throwing stones, while the police opened fire on the inhabitants. The clashes continued until 06:00 in the morning. It is reported that police targeted the houses by firing bullets, but were unable to raid the houses due to the strong reaction of the people.
In the meantime, the governorate of the district told the local media that the clashes broke out during military transportation, while the local people say there is no road for military vehicles passing through those neighbourhoods.
Large numbers of people, including representatives from the HDP, DBP and NGOs went to the Kışla and Orman neighbourhoods to prevent further attacks and to make examinations at the scene.
