In a press conference at the HDP party's building in Ankara, co-chair Pervin Buldan said: "This government is opportunistic and misogynist and see Kurds and Alevi as enemies." Buldan underlined that the seizure of 5 more HDP-municipalities confirms that "the AKP is in a coup mood," and added that it is shameful to see "attacks on graveyards, funerals, religious places" at a time in which solidarity is most required to face the coronavirus pandemic.
Buldan reminded that 45 HDP-run municipalities have so far been appointed trustees and added that "the municipalities appointed trustees are actually turned into police stations."
Saying that the government is afraid of the growth of the HDP, Buldan added: "The AKP should know this: You won't be able to win those municipalities through elections in a thousand years."
Buldan continued: "If we do not protest against the trustee appointed to Iğdır and Siirt, we will all be responsible for the trustees to be appointed to Istanbul and Ankara. I would like to call on the forces of democracy: the mindset that appoint trustees to the municipalities of Iğdır and Siirt, will be the same that appoint trustees to Istanbul or Izmir or Ankara. To the government I want to say this: We will never say 'thank you'. We will never obey your orders. We will not kneel before you."
