PKK commemorates Martyrs of May

In a written statement, the PKK Executive Committee commemorated the martyrs of the month of May.

The PKK Executive Committee said: "As Movement and People we are entering May, which is our Month of Martyrs. On the basis of the enlightenment of our leadership and Martyrs, we understand the situations we are experiencing much better and develop our struggle for freedom and democracy more strongly."

The PKK Executive Committee added: "We have entered a new Month of Martyrs under the coronavirus attack that threatens the free future of humanity. This lethal epidemic is spreading all over and a new massacre of humanity is taking place.

There is no doubt that the coronavirus attack has emerged as a result of the assault of the capitalist modernity system to nature and society and has become an integral part of the Third World War that we have been experiencing for thirty years.

However, while the chaos and crisis experienced by capitalism are getting deeper, there are always some capital circles which are profiting. The capitalist modernity system, which has promised 'unlimited freedom' to humanity, has finally turned the world into a prison for the entire humanity."

The statement reminded that the "AKP-MHP fascism is increasing repression in every part of Turkey, including Kurdistan. In the first period when the virus started to spread, while appointing new trustees to many municipalities in Kurdistan, the government passed a law that forgives its own supporters and leaves all antifascist forces in prison. It increases isolation and torture in İmralı, threatens the health and safety of Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and tries to spread the fascist-genocidal war it waged on Rojava and Başurê Kurdistan even further. It strengthens its attacks on our Freedom Movement by getting power from the USA and backing from the KDP."

The statement continued: "As Movement and People we are entering May, which is our Month of Martyrs. On the basis of the enlightenment of our leadership and Martyrs, we understand the situations we are experiencing much better and develop our struggle for freedom and democracy more strongly. On this basis, we celebrated May Day, the day of unity, solidarity and struggle of workers, trying to develop our own democratic alternative, while demonstrating our anger against fascist dictatorship. Undoubtedly, we will continue this attitude throughout the month of May and we will further develop our fight for freedom and democracy in every field against the system of capitalist modernity that is responsible for the coronavirus pandemic and fascist-genocidal dictatorship."
