Police attack people before funeral in Yüksekova

Tens of thousands have gathered in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district for the funeral ceremony for Reşit İşbilir (35) and Veysel İşbilir (34) who were shot dead by Turkish police, special operation teams, yesterday during a demo against the ongoing attacks on the cemetery of eight HPG (People's Defense Forces) guerrillas in the Orman neighborhood.

The bodies of two Kurdish civilians have been brought back to Yüksekova following an autopsy at the Forensic department in the province of Van.

Thousands of people who had gathered on Cengiz Topel Street were violently attacked by police after the bodies of two men were brought here. Clashes broke out as demonstrators responded to the police attack with stones and molotov cocktails.

The mass started to march to the cemetery after BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) co-chair Sebahat Tuncel arrived at the scene.

The march to the cemetery is continuing despite high tension and intense security measures. Two Kurdish civilians will be laid to rest at Akalın cemetery.
