Police attack people joining HPG guerrilla's funeral ceremony

Police attacked people who have gathered in Hakkari's Yüksekova district today to join the funeral ceremony of HPG (People's Defense Forces) guerrilla Aydın Engüder (Fırat Ganiroj).

Engüder from the village of Serindere (Sişemzin) died in clashes with Turkish soldiers in 2008. His body has recently been taken from the Forensic Medicine Institution in Istanbul and brought to Yüksekova.

Clashes broke out in the district as police violently attacked the young people who reacted against the intense police activity in the area before the funeral ceremony. Police used intense tear gas and pressure water against the demonstrators who responded to the attack with stones.

Tension continues in the district where shops have been closed after the police attack.
