Police carry out new political police operation in Adana, detain many

Turkish police carried out a new political police operation in Adana targeting the Binevş Culture and Art Association. The police searched many houses and detained numerous people, including HDP Provincial co-chairs Helin Kaya and Mehmet Karakış.

Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a detention warrant for 38 people as part of the political police operation that targeted the Binevş Culture and Art Association. As part of the investigation, searches were carried out at the Center and some addresses in Adana and Amed.

After the searches, people's Democratic Party (HDP) Adana Provincial co-chairs Helin Kaya and Mehmet Karakış, DBP Çukurova Regional Co-Spokespersons Şilan Turğa and Enver Güler, Deputy Mayor of Seyhan Municipality Funda Buyruk, Mehmet Sait Dikmen, Abdurrahman Oral, Hayrettin Öz, Sever Uzun, Mehmet Saruhan and Mahsun Uzun, were taken into custody.

The police searched the Binevş Culture and Art Association for hours. Seyhan Municipality Deputy Mayor Funda Buyruk's room in the municipality was also searched.

The detainees were said to have been taken to Adana Security Directorate.

It was stated that the people in Mehmet Sait Dikmen's house were tortured by the police. It was emphasized that a woman who was at home during the raid was locked in her room and her clothes were taken off and strip searched.
