Clashes that broke out upon police attack on the groups that had gathered in Ankara to commemorate the victims of October 10 massacre in Ankara have spread to Kızılay area.
Police forces besieged Ankara train station on the first year anniversary of the Peace Rally which had been organized by KESK, DİSK, TMMOB and TTB and targeted by two suicide attacks, which left over 100 people dead and many others wounded.
Police officers cordoned off the train station and prevented anyone including the families of Ankara massacre’s victims from reaching the scene of the brutal massacre. At one point, families rejected the police’s offer that only those that had the same last name with the victims would be allowed passage, because this would prevent many other relatives from joining the commemoration.
Police attacked groups in Gençlik Parkı, Hipodrom, Abdi İpekçi, Tandoğan, Ulus and Atatürk Boulevard as clashes with protestors spread to Kızılay and Sıhhiye. When protesting groups insisted on staying on the streets, police officers filled the streets with tear gas.
Police forces violently attacked protestors in Tandoğan, and dragged several women on the ground. Protestors moved to Kızılay, and the clashes in the area continue.
The clashes that began between police and protestors in Gençlik Park have spread over to Ulus.
Accompanied by the victims’ families, HDP Co-Presidents are making a press statement in front of the police barricade in Ulus.
