Police operation against DEM Party in Suruç, at least 12 taken into custody

At least 12 people, including the DEM Party district co-chair and municipal council member candidates, were taken into custody during house raids in Suruç, in the province of Urfa.

House raids were carried out by police in Suruç (Pirsûs), in the province of Urfa (Riha), this morning. The police were acting upon the instructions of the Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

At least 12 people were taken into custody. Among them are DEM Party Suruç provincial co-chair Nazlı Binici, Nihat Demirbilekli, Müslüm Baran, Metin Bali, Baran Karak, Fadıl Kocakaplan, Ahmet Ceylaner, Mehmet Yüce, Bilal Zeren and Municipal Council member candidates Serkan Bali, Selami Kip and Zeliha Polat.

While the reason for the detention was not known, it was reported that the number may increase. A confidentiality order was ordered on the file.
