Police take 200 people into custody after Newroz celebration in Istanbul

Hundreds of thousands of people attended the Newroz celebration in Istanbul. Police attacked the crowd at the end of the celebration and detained around 200 people, including a disabled child and lawyers.

Hundreds of thousands of people attended the Newroz celebration in Yenikapı Square in Istanbul. As the crowd was leaving the square, at the end of the celebration, the police attacked people.

The people reacted and protested police who wanted to take a group of people into custody only because they were chanting slogans such as "Bijî Serok Apo", "Bê Serok jiyan nabe" and "Bijî berxwedana in the prisons".

The police attacked the crowd and detained around 200 people in the middle of the street.

Among those taken into custody was a disabled child and some lawyers.
