Prison administration seizes DIHA reporter's letters
The administration of Kürkçüler F Type Prison in Adana has seized the letters Ferhat Arslan, reporter of Dicle News Agency (DIHA) jailed here, has recently sent to the International Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), to daily Özgür Gündem and its editor in chief Hüseyin Aykol.
Reporter Arslan from the southern province of Mersin was arrested in a so-called KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) operation which was carried out in six cities on 25 September 2012. Arslan's letters have been seized for allegedly leading to misdirection by writing fabricated news in his letters.
Sending a letter to DIHA about the prison administration's seizure of his reports, Arslan evaluated the denial of his right to communication as a violation.
Arslan also noted that 41 people who were arrested in the Mersin-centered operation on 25 September are still waiting for the first trial that will take place on 10 April next week. He added that the indictment of the case they were tried in involved a number of tragicomic cases.
