Fifty PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) prisoners in Diyarbakýr D-Type Prison have announced indefinite hunger-strike to protest against the isolation on Öcalan and attacks on the Kurdish people. Prisoners called for awareness towards the policies of isolation and slaughter.
The statement by prisoners remarked that the indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike act will be started as of February 14.
The statement which was made on the eve of 15th anniversary of the international conspiracy against leader Abdullah Öcalan said that; “The isolation on our Leader has reached an unprecedented point while the political institutions of Kurds are targeted with political operations and the resisting Kurdish people and guerrillas face slaughter. Besides, the efforts given for silencing opponent press and Roj Tv reveal the dimensions of this updated conspiracy. The AKP believes that it will obtain the desired results through these slaughter methods.”
Noting that it is a duty to develop a total resistance in this process with a spirit of national unity, the statement said; “On this basis, as 600 PKK prisoners in Amed prison, against these attacks, we are starting a three-day hunger strike on 14 February while at the same time 50 comrades of us will start an indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike act.”
