Medipol Başakşehir, the football team of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his family in the Turkish Super League, was protested in Florence, Italy.
Medipol Başakşehir was beaten 2-1 by Fiorentina, one of the prominent football clubs in Italy, at Stadio Artemio Franchi in the UEFA conference league.
The arrival of the Medipol Başakşehir team, which is claimed to have been established by the Erdoğan family and his government to launder money, was met with protests.
Kurds and leftist groups protested when the Turkish team was hosted in the hometown of YPG martyr Lorenzo Orsetti (Tekoşer Piling).
Italy's famous cartoonist Zerocalcare, Lorenzo Orsetti's father, Aleksandro Orsetti, the Italian Kurdish Committee, Florence Municipality council members, student movements and leftist organizations participated in a press briefing for a protest.
Niccolò Bartoloni made a speech on behalf of non-governmental organizations and the student movement. “While we have been fighting shoulder to shoulder for years to put an end to the exploitation, occupation and massacre of the Kurdish people, it is unacceptable that the football team of dictator Erdogan, the mastermind of the massacres, came to Florence today,” Bartoloni said.
“We will take our place in seating areas in the stadium, and we will disturb this fake team of the AKP and Erdogan family,” Bartoloni added.
During the night hours, left-wing organizations and football fans hung posters and banners on walls around Stadio Artemio Franchi.
