Protest against police operation against Kurdish Community Center in Nuremberg

In Nuremberg, the Democratic Kurdish Community Center and a private apartment have been raided, and activist Mirza B. has been arrested as a suspected PKK leader. Numerous organizations have protested against the repression.

Today in the early morning hours, a police raid took place at the Democratic Kurdish Community Center (Medya People’s House) in Nuremberg by order of the Munich Higher Regional Court. A strong police contingent arrived, broke open the outer door, which was damaged in the process, and stormed into the building. During the search, one person was present inside who was not related to the investigation. All the premises of the association were searched. The officers rummaged through cupboards, drawers, desks and the kitchen, causing great chaos. Data carriers, cell phones and office materials were seized. The car of a member of the association, which was parked on the association's premises because of an intended private sale, was also searched.

At the same time, police officers stormed the apartment of the association's co-chairwoman. Mirza B., who was present in the apartment as a guest, was arrested. According to a decision by the Munich Higher Regional Court, he is accused of being "responsible for the PKK area of Nuremberg”. He was transferred to Munich for the opening of the arrest warrant. A lawyer of his choice was present at the court appearance. Mirza B. was then taken to Augsburg-Gablingen Prison.

The co-chairwoman of the Nuremberg association suffered a nervous breakdown during the search of her private apartment. She was thereupon brought into a hospital and medically cared for. In addition to computer equipment, cell phones, a digital camera, several data carriers and notes, cash from donations for Corona victims was also seized in her apartment.

In the early evening, several members of the association as well as internationalists from various organizations gathered in front of the Medya People’s House to express solidarity. Among them were representatives of AGIF, ATIF, Interventionistische Linke, die Falken, Rote Hilfe, OA, Linke Liste, DKP, MLPD and KKP. The activists said it is noticeable that after each visit of a representative of the Turkish government a blow is struck against the Kurdish freedom movement in this country. Only yesterday, for example, the Turkish foreign minister was a guest of his counterpart, where once again the German-Turkish partnership was invoked and the way was paved for the coming tourist season.

The Medya People's House is calling for a rally on Saturday, May 8, at 3 p.m. at Aufseßplatz in Nuremberg. This rally should actually be directed against the continued attacks of the Turkish state on the Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan, but for current reasons will also have today's raids and the arrest in Nuremberg as a topic - addressed to the German public, which still too often closes its eyes to the fact that the German government courted a fascist regime and not only abandons the Kurdish-Turkish opposition, but actively participates in the slander of the regime opponents as "terrorists".
