Protest in Batman at arrests

Protest in Batman at arrests

While Turkish police continue to carry out arrests, protests are taking place in Kurdistan.

Components of the Batman Democracy and Labour  Platform issued a press statement this morning in front of Atatürk park in Batman to protest at arrests in Kurdish cities after the wave of solidarity actions with Kobanê.

Representatives of many Civil Society Organisations and members of the Peace Mothers Assembly attended the reading of the press release. SES Batman Branch chair Mustafa Yurtsever drew attention to the YPG/YPJ resistance in Kobanê that has been continuing for 69 days.

Yurtsever added that following the protests of 7-9 October there had been mass arrests in Batman and many other cities in Kurdistan and Turkey, adding: "These arrests are seen as contradicting the spirit of the process of resolution and our hopes for the future.”

Yurtsever said the platform demanded an end to these arrests that were harming the process.
