Racist attack in Mersin

A family going from South Kurdistan to Mersin was attacked by Turkish racists for being Kurdish. Two people were injured, one of them seriously. The assailants have been identified, but the authorities remained silence.

A Kurdish family going from Hewlêr to Mersin was attacked by 3 people in the Gözsızce Hyena region of Bozyazı district.

The attackers who made the Grey Wolves, the racist paramilitary structure of the Turkish state, sign, injured two people, one of them seriously. The wounded were taken to hospital.

Images of the racist attack were also broadcast on social networks. In the images, a person who lost consciousness is seen covered with blood on the ground. "They killed the man," someone can be heard saying several times.

It is unknown whether the attackers were detained or not. Turkish officials did not make any statements.

Eyewitness, Cihan Kutluk, said: “They attacked the man and his 12-13-year old boy with stones and hit them in the head. The man was thrown towards the barriers and passed out.”

Kutluk added: “They tried to kick the man off the cliff. The assailants made the Grey Wolf sign and swore at the Kurds. Then I realized that it was a racist attack. They swore at the Kurds for 5 minutes. I took the man and put him on his jeep and took him to the gendarmerie point. Then we called the ambulance and it was brought to the hospital.”

It is stated that the same attacker, who has been identified, threatened those who witnessed the incident with death. Kutluk said: “The identified person turned towards us and sai 'I will kill those who witnessed this event.”
