The People’s Municipality is quickly making progress to restore the city
After the city of Raqqa was liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on 17 November 2017, the People's Municipality begun working with just 10 employees.
On 1 February 2018 there was an official opening and the Municipality was presented.
Water, sewerage, environmental and park Committees were established by the Municipality, which still operates with limited facilities.
60 percent of the buildings and infrastructure were destroyed in the war, and the People's Municipality began its work by removing the war debris in the El Meşleb district to progressively begin working all around the city.
By May 2018, the People’s Municipality had carried out many works and projects.
Here are some of them:
Drinking water
The People’s Municipality began to repair drinking water networks and sewerage system immediately after the liberation of the city.
Some 75 percent of the drinking water networks have been repaired and water is being distributed to El Bedo, El Wadi Street, El Reid Park, El Nim Boulevard, El Qitar Caddesi and El Derhiye Postanesi areas.
The Municipality also planted trees and repaired the paths in El Rishid, El Bustan, El Beyda and El Beceha parks.
The Municipality have also painted the main streets.
Health
The Municipality also carried out disinfection programs in neighborhoods to prevent the spreading of epidemics.
In May, the International Coalition and the Syria Democratic Assembly helped the Municipality with work equipment and supplies.
Speaking to ANHA, the president of Raqqa People's Municipality, Ehmed Ibrahim, said that at the beginning they were not offered any help and that the Raqqa Civil Council was providing some aid.
Speaking about some of the projects, Ehmed İbrahim, said that works on El Dele Boulevard will be completed soon, and added that they needed a good plan for their work to be carried out properly because of the damage caused by the war during the occupation of the city by the Islamic State.
