The occupying Turkish state is using the Euphrates River as a weapon against the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria. Water cuts cause ecological disasters in the region and negatively affect the cultivation of agricultural products. Turkey violates international laws and the 1987 agreement between the Syrian government and the Turkish state. According to the agreement made between the two parties, the river has to give 500 cubic meters of water per second, but only 200 cubic meters of water per second is provided.
The General Administration of Dams in North and East Syria said in a recent statement that the Tishrin Dam is drying out and thus the rights of all peoples in North and East Syria are violated.
“Today we are facing a humanitarian disaster. The current economic crisis is particularly a difficult process for all Syrian people," Fadil Mustefa said.
Mustefa pointed out that the Turkish state reduces water flow to Syria a little more every year. The amount of water is not enough for the irrigation of the fields or the operation of the electricity stations.
TURKISH STATE SUBJECTS LOCAL PEOPLE TO STARVATION
“The Turkish state is waging an economic war against the people of the region. It has started a policy of leaving local people to starvation. The people of the region earn their living from agriculture and animal husbandry,” Mustefa added.
'CALL UPON CITIZENS AND FARMERS'
Fadil Mustefa called on the people of the region and the farmers to support the Autonomous Administration and urged international organizations and the UN Security Council to intervene in the acts of the Turkish state. “If the Turkish state continues to cut off the water for the people of the region, the people may face great disasters.”
