Refugee camp near Athens quarantined over Coronavirus

According to reports on Greek radio, a refugee camp in Athens was quarantined because of coronavirus infection.

The Greek Coronavirus crisis team has quarantined a refugee camp in northern Athens for 14 days. The decision was taken because a woman was diagnosed with coronavirus after giving birth to her child in a hospital in Athens earlier this week, ERT reported on Thursday. Subsequently, 20 other refugees in the Ritsona camp have tested positive for the virus.

The situation in the Ritsona camp - where the Athens media estimate that some 3,000 people live - is difficult, but not nearly as bad as in the camps on the islands in the eastern Aegean.

In Greece, 51 people have died from the coronavirus so far.
