Well over 10,000 refugees are currently piled up on the Turkish-Greek border. About 68 of them are said to have crossed the border so far. Greece wants to prevent further border crossings by all means and is using water cannons, tear gas, stun grenades and live ammunition against the people in the border area. Many people have been injured so far and at least one person has been killed since the Turkish "opening of the border".
Turkey has brought refugees, deceived with false information from the state, to the border in buses.
Yesterday, the government sent a thousand policemen into the field to prevent "push backs" into Turkey. What this means is now becoming clear. Turkish security forces use tear gas against refugees who are pushed back by the Greek police with water cannons. Some reports claim that Turkish police also take action against Greek police officers in order to cut a path through which refugees can be pushed back into Greece.
