Release of author of the Madimak Hotel fire protested in Zurich

The release of Ahmet Turan Kılıç, one of the authors of the massacre carried out in Sivas Madımak Hotel on 1 July 1993, was protested with a demonstration in Zurich.

The release of Ahmet Turan Kılıç, one of the perpetrators of the Madımak Massacre, was protested in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Swiss Alevi Unions Federation (IABF) promoted an action which was joined by Alevi organizations and democratic institutions at the central train station.

Activists carried the photographs of the intellectuals and artists, who lost their lives in Madımak. A banner said: "We won't forgive those who set it on fire, we won't forget those who are covering up", in reference to the Madimak fire and those who know covered the truth up.

After a press release read in German on behalf of the IABF, artists who joined the action addressed the crowd. The action ended with a minute silence in memory of those who lost their life in the fire.

Background

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan last week pardoned Ahmet Turan Kılıç who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Kılıç was identified as one of the author of the Sivas Massacre. A mob set the Madımak Hotel in Sivas on fire on 2 July1993, killing 33 intellectuals and two hotel personnel.
