Renewed confrontation at the Greek-Turkish border

The refugee crisis at the Turkish-Greek border continues. While the Turkish police shot from behind with tear gas, Greek police officers beat up refugees from the front.

On Tuesday night, clashes broke out again at the Greek-Turkish border crossing at Kastanies/Pazarkule. According to reports on Greek state television, about 500 desperate refugees tried to tear down the border fence to Greece. According to the report, Turkish police fired tear gas grenades across the border at Greek police and Frontex units. Greek officials reportedly used powerful fans to drive the tear gas and smoke back into Turkish territory. They also used tear gas. The fighting lasted about an hour and a half and ended around four o'clock in the morning. Since then there has been silence at the border crossing again, reporters from Kastanies reported.

The refugees are caught between the Erdoğan regime, which uses them as a means of pressure at the border, and the Greek police and Frontex. The EU's sealing off policy is based on keeping refugees away at all costs.
