Including BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) District Chair and City Council members, 18 people have been taken into custody on 10 January night in Kýzýltepe district of Mardin. Detentions of today have targeted BDP members who “turned themselves in” within the scope of the “We are KCK members too” campaign launched by BDP as a protest act against the so-called “KCK” operations.
While two detainees were released after the interrogation at Prosecution Office, 16 were remanded in custody and sent to Mardin Prison.
On the other hand, organized raids and detentions continued in other cities as well. Following simultaneous house raids supported by special operation teams, police on 10 January detained 13 people in Silopi district of Þýrnak, eight people in Çýnar district of Diyarbakýr and one student in Ankara. The number of detentions is expected to increase as searches and raids in houses continue.
