Repression intensified on the third day of the long march

The repression against the long march "rise against Fascism, free Leader Apo" of the Kurdish youth was further aggravated on the third day.

After this year's long march against fascism and for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan was disrupted by the police on the first day following specific provocations of individual officials, the route could not be continued on the second day.

On the third day, the ongoing repressions were increased once more. Yet at the scheduled meeting on Tuesday morning, the police placed the participants under a siege so that they could identify the identity of all attendees and issue them an expulsion.

Here, as in the past few days, an effort was made to provoke the participants and cause an escalation. The bags and belongings of the female participants were searched by male officials.

The arbitrary acts exposed the German police forces’ attempt to intimidate the demonstrators. Split into small groups, some of the participants were forcibly pushed into trains, while a large number of inspectors were already waiting to pronounce fines for traveling without a valid ticket.

A statement by the activists said:

"These measures will not detract us from our intention to stand up publicly for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and to set an example against fascism throughout the world.

It is clear that the police, just before the Turkish President Erdoğan is received in Berlin, are trying to intimidate critical voices and create the image of an aggressive mob through provocation. This is aimed at creating legitimacy for a general ban and forcible action.

We will continue to stand together against these provocations and to peacefully demonstrate the entire week as planned, in order to make this strategy of repression come to nothing."
