Resistance for municipalities continues in Mardin

HDP continues with its protests in Amed, Mardin and Van where the municipalities were seized by the AKP regime on August 19 through the removal of elected mayors and their replacement by appointed trustees.

HDP members in Mardin continued their sit-in action for the 15th day to protest the seizure of the Mardin, Amed and Van municipalities by the AKP regime.

The daily sit-in action was held at the Karayolları Park in the city center amid continued siege by the police with armored vehicles and anti-riot vehicles.

Residents who wanted to join the HDP group were once again barred by the police from joining the action. Tensions rose when HDP groups coming from the districts of Mardin tried to join the sit-in.

HDP Batman MP Necdet İpekyüz made a press statement after the sit-in which lasted two hours.

İpekyüz recalled that they have been resisting in Amed, Van and Mardin for 15 days and vowed to continue with their democratic struggle everywhere under all circumstances.

Noting that today was the new judicial year opening in Turkey, the HDP deputy said that the judiciary was not independent, and called on everyone who wants justice in the country to raise their voices against this unlawfulness.
