Sancar MP: Government tries to leave the HDP under the threshold

The HDP Mardin deputy called on people to vote, as every vote counts.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Ankara Provincial Organization met with representatives of democratic mass civic organizations and local associations in the city for breakfast.

HDP candidates, Filiz Kerestecioğlu, Veli Saçılık, Nuray Turkmen and Mardin HDP deputy, Mithat Sancar, attended the breakfast.

The event began with a video message from HDP presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş.

Demirtaş' words were applauded for a long time by those attending the event.

We are here and we are getting bigger

HDP Mardin deputy Mithat Sancar greeted the people in Arabic, Kurdish and Turkish and said: “It is not only Erdogan and the AKP that are afraid, but all the cadres within the state are afraid of HDP. Why they are afraid? Because they did not recognize the results of the elections on 7 June. Then they reacted with war, today they are doing the same”.

Sancar added: “You cannot rule, though, with blood and lies. Now they cannot rule, even though they occupy everything”.

Reiterating that the AKP is in power but can’t actually rule the country, Sancar said that “the AKP has tried all sorts of ways to liquidate the HDP: they took our comrades hostage, they stripped them of their parliamentary immunity. Yet, despite all the pressures, the HDP is still standing. And this makes them very angry. In fact, we are not standing, we are getting bigger”.

Safety at polls

Sancar pointed out to the importance of securing safety at polls. “The government knows very well that our electorate will go to the polls. Which is why it is trying to prevent voters from casting their vote, it is trying to make it difficult for our electorate to reach polling stations. The government will make everything in its power to ensure the HDP stays under the threshold. We urge voters to be alert on Sunday 24 June”.

Sancar also underlined the importance of every single vote and called on people to not believe opinion polls: “The HDP - he said - has no problem with the threshold. Don’t trust opinion polls, those are made by the government to scare people out”.

The Mardin deputy ended his speech by remembering the people murdered in Suruç on 14 June, by AKP candidate’s family members. “It is clear that the murder in Suruç is the result of a provocation. They never stop, they keep lying and blaming others for the killings they carry out. But, we, the HDP, are a party of peace”.

Working day and night

HDP Ankara candidates Nuray Turkmen, Veli Saçılık and Filiz Kerestecioğlu spoke about the need to continue work day and night.

Türkmen said: “The wind blows on our side, I believe we will succeed with this good weather”.

Veli Saçılık said: “We will win the AKP on 24 June”.

Filiz Kerestecioğlu added: “We are the mouth and representative of the communities. If local politics is not strengthened, Erdogan will continue to come and go. We have to give a vote to stop centralised politics and give Turkey many colours, many beliefs, women, many identities”.
