Saturday Mothers staged 440th sit in demanding justice for those forcibly disappeared and killed in unsolved murders.
This week they asked the fate of Murat Yıldız, Hasan Ocak and Hayrettin Eren who disappeared in custody.
Speaking at the sit-in, Hasan Ocak's brother Ali Ocak voiced wishes for peace ahead of the World Peace Day September 1, adding that, "We are here for 18 years now demanding to know the truth on disappearances. We also wish peace which however requires the ending of further pains and massacres".
Referring to western countries' preparations for a war in the Middle East, Ocak called on all states to abandon their pro-war policies and to leave the Middle East region.
Speaking after, İkbal Eren, brother of Hayrettin Eren who disappeared in the period of the 12 September military coup in 1980, called on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to cry for the people killed in Turkey before crying for those killed in Egypt.
Eren pointed out that "If there will be peace in the country, the first step must be giving an answer to Saturday Mothers".
Reading the press statement here, Sevim Fontaine, Chairperson of French Association of Saturday Mothers, listed the demands of Saturday Mothers as follows;
"To us, peace doesn't mean the silence of arms alone. To us, it means justice and disclosure of truths.
To us, peace means facing all crimes against humanity committed on these lands. To us, peace means a gift to the graveless deaths we suffered.
We believe a political mindset siding with freedom and equality is the only way to enable the change of the non-conflict environment into a peace environment."
