Message from Scotland: Peace lies in the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan

At the press conference held in Glasgow within the scope of the 'Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Political Solution to the Kurdish Question' initiative, activists said that 'Peace lies in Öcalan's freedom'.

A press conference was held in Wales, Scotland, within the scope of the campaign launched to demand freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and a solution to the Kurdish question.

Scottish MP Chris Stephens, UNISON Union President Stephen Smelie and Writer Jenny Keasden attended the press conference held at the Unite the Union union building.

Many academics, writers, politicians and politicians also attended the meeting, moderated by Glasgow City Council Member Roza Salih.

Rosa Salih, Scotland's first immigrant City Council member and also a SNP member, said that Abdullah Öcalan's ideas are important not only for the Kurds but for all the people of the world, and added that people from Scotland, Colombia and Europe are inspired by Abdullah Öcalan.

Scottish MP Chris Stephens stated that the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan constitutes a serious violation of rights and added: "I admire the deep loyalty of the Kurdish people to Abdullah Öcalan and understand the widespread concerns about his health. We understand that his arrest, trial and detention did not end the conflict between the Turkish state and the Kurds. On the contrary, it formed the basis of the problems that continue to this day."

Stephens called on the British government to use its representatives in Turkey to end the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and initiate a peace process that will recognize the importance of Abdullah Öcalan in bringing peace to the Middle East.

Writer and Jineoloji Committee member Jenny Keasden also touched upon the Turkish state's attacks on Rojava and massacres of children. Keasden said: "The political projects developed in Rojava inspired by Abdullah Öcalan not only provide real change but can pave the way for peace and solution for the entire Middle East. That's why we need to be in strong solidarity with Rojava."

Keasden stated that the key to Middle East peace and the change in politics could begin with the release of Abdullah Öcalan.
