Scottish Parliament recognizes the ISIS genocide against Êzidîs

The Scottish Parliament has recognized the genocide of Êzidîs by the terrorist "Islamic State" (ISIS).

The motion "Justice for Êzidîs" submitted by parliamentarian Ben Macpherson was adopted by the parliamentary groups.

Accordingly, the Scottish Parliament demands that the perpetrators to be brought before the International Criminal Court in the Hague and brought to account.

The Scottish Parliament thus follows a resolution of the British Parliament in April 2016, which recognized the crimes committed by the ISIS against Êzidîs and other minorities as genocide.

Scotland also calls on the British government to take immediate and determined measures to prevent further violations of human rights and to accept the victims of these crimes as refugees.

The decision of the Scottish Parliament was preceded by meetings with the Êzidî genocide survivors and UN special envoy Nadia Murad, who called for recognition of the genocide.

On Twitter Nadia Murad thanked on behalf of the Êzidîs for the decision of Parliament. "Recognition of the genocide by the Scottish Parliament enlightened the hearts of thousands of Êzidîs. Tragedy of ISIS victims must be acknowledged worldwide," Murad said.
