SDF reached Deir ez-Zor within 48 hours

Syrian Democratic Forces made a unique progress during Operation Cizire Storm. Within 48 hours, the forces managed to reach the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor city and liberate vast areas east of the Euphrates River and cut off ISIS supply road.

The campaign launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces to liberate the rest of the territory of the Cizîre Region and the east of the Euphrates, the eastern suburb of Deir ez-Zor from ISIS gangs, came in conjunction with the campaign to liberate the city of al-Raqqa.

The operation started from two fronts, one is the Abu Fas-Deir ez-Zor front, where the fighters have cleared an area of 67 kilometres. The second flank is the Abu-Khashab-Deir ez-Zor front, from which the SDF fighters made huge advances as well and managed to liberate 47 kilometres of land towards Deir ez-Zor city.

The fighters liberated many villages and areas like "El-Hicefat, Humir El-Tewil, El-Erbidi, El-Maliha, Reqeb El-Hikume and Deir ez-Zor's industrial zone" since the beginning of the operation. Also the road connecting Deir ez-Zor with Hesekê has been blocked by the SDF, through which the ISIS gangs had tried to launch attacks on Hesekê.

The Operation Cizire Storm is progressing very rapidly, despite the intensity of the battles being waged by Syrian Democratic Forces fighters with ISIS gangs.

Deir ez-Zor Military Council Commander Ahmed Abu Khawla spoke to ANHA and said that ISIS gangs are trying to stop the progress of their fighters towards the city in several ways, such as the heavy use of bombed cars and suicidal attacks.

Ahmed Abu Khawla explained that the reactions of the people of the city of Deir ez-Zor are good. He said, “Our people and our relatives in Deir ez-Zor impatiently await their liberation from oppression and terrorism. They are waiting for the moment of liberation and liberating their city impatiently”.

The commander added that dozens of Deir ez-Zor people joined the ranks of their forces since the start of the campaign.
