Six businessmen were detained with the operations carried out against Kurdish businessmen in France’s capital city Paris region.
According to information received, French anti-terrorist police detained six Kurdish businessmen with the raids carried out on Tuesday morning. It drew attention that the detentions which were carried out with the allegation “financing terrorism” coincided with before French President Nicolas Sarkozy's official visit to Turkey on 25 February.
57 DETENTIONS SINCE 2010
France has intensified its policy of criminalization of the Kurds in a systematic way in recent years. at least 57 Kurds were detained for political reasons since the beginning of 2010. The number detainees since November 2010 rose to 16. Six people were detained with sacks put over their heads at the raids carried out on Marseille People's House and houses of Kurds on 7 December. Three people were detained for the same reason once again in Marseilles on 30 November.
These latest operations were made following former French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner's visit to Ankara on October 11-12 in 2010. During the visit, Kouchner had stated that MÝT (National Intelligence Organization) boss Hakan Fidan had visited Paris not a long time ago. Kouchner had held conversations with Ahmet Davutoðlu and emphasized that there existed a co-operation between the two countries in every field, adding; “28 PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) members were arrested in France”.
