Six soldiers killed as YPS hits bus in Mersin

At least six soldiers of the Turkish army were killed and 15 others seriously injured in an YPS action against a military bus in Mersin.

The ‘Mazlum Jiyanda Retaliation Units of the Civil Defense Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Sivîl, YPS) claimed responsibility for an action against a bus transporting Turkish soldiers on July 27. In Mut district of Mersin, a bus carrying soldiers was targeted by the unit. Several soldiers were killed and injured as a result.

The YPS stated that this was not an accident, as claimed by the state media, but a retaliatory action by their units. According to the YPS, the units of the YPS had scouted out the habits of the army on a long-term basis and struck the bus at 7:00 a.m. on Monday with a "special technique". A total of six soldiers were killed in the action. Another 30 were injured, including 15 seriously. The YPS dedicated their action to Mazlum Jiyanda who fell a martyr during an air raid by the Turkish army in Heftanin region of Medya Defense Zones in Southern Kurdistan on September 1, 2019.

Recalling that the Turkish media reported the incident as an accident, YPS said: "The special war media did not succeed in covering up the action. Instead, they have become entangled in contradictions in their reports. The people should not fall into the machinations of the special war media. They must overcome the politics of fear and oppression."

The YPS concluded: "The AKP/MHP coalition is as weak as never before and is therefore raging all the more violently. Now is the time to stand up against fascism."
