The new Social Contract for the autonomous region of Northern and Eastern Syria was presented at the Anselmo Lorenzo Foundation in Madrid. The PYD Europe representative, Mizgîn Ahmed, was invited as a speaker.
Ahmed described the history and contents of the Social Contract, which was adopted in a renewed version in December after years of discussion and writing. The renewal was necessary because the previous version of the contract, from 2016, did not include the regions of Raqqa, Tabqa, Manbij and Deir ez-Zor, which were then still occupied by the Islamic State.
The Social Contract of Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Northern and Eastern Syria Region (DAANES) includes the basic rights and freedoms of people and various ethnic groups and regulates the structure of democracy, self-defense and justice.
Dozens of people took part in the event at the Fundación Anselmo Lorenzo (FAL).
Further events on the topic are scheduled to take place in the Spanish State in the coming days.
The FAL is committed to the spread and protection of libertarian culture. Its activities include publishing content about anarchism and preserving documents related to the CNT trade union confederation. Anselmo Lorenzo Asperilla was a co-founder of the CNT in 1910 and is also known as the “grandfather of Spanish anarchism”. He died in Barcelona in 1914. His contribution to the spread of anarchist ideas is also described in Murray Bookchin's book The Spanish Anarchists: The Heroic Years, 1868-1936.
