Socialist Youth Associations Federation organizes march for Suruç massacre victims

The Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) will launch a march from Istanbul to Ankara tomorrow to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Suruç massacre in 2015.

The Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) organizes the “Justice Week” each year on the anniversary of the Suruç massacre. The SGDF has already kicked off its actions and activities in many cities. The SGDF will meet the Suruç families in front of Kadıköy Municipality on July 9, make a press statement, and then start a march to Ankara.

Young activists will walk with the families in Kadıköy for a while. They will later head for Ankara by cars and attend the commemoration event for the 2015 Ankara massacre on July 10. Press statements will be made in Amed and Adana on July 9. Another statement titled “Justice for Deniz Poyraz, justice for all” will be made in front of the Türkan Saylan Cultural Center in İzmir.

 'COURT FOUND YOUNG ACTIVISTS FAULTY!'

Şükran Yaren Tuncer, a member of the SGDF Central Executive Board, said, “A court found that the youth's presence in Suruç was faulty by claiming that they went to a conflict zone. They are declaring those who were murdered guilty. We will fight against this in the streets.”

Tuncer said that the massacre was aimed at shattering the unity of the Kurdish and Turkish people.

“Young people set out to Suruç in an attempt to bring the anger and rebellion in Kurdish cities together with the Rojava revolution and to disseminate the revolution to Turkey and Kurdish cities. They wanted to heal the wounds of a people who took their own destiny in their hands in Kobani, and to show solidarity with those people. Moreover, they wanted to meet the children and train them in various subjects. They were going there for the construction of Kobani.”

'JUSTICE CAN ONLY BE SERVED ON STREETS'

“Turkey has always denied the Kurdish people and attempted to annihilate them. There has been a fascist terror, oppression and crackdown against the Kurdish people, oppressed peoples, women, youth and laborers who promote democracy, freedom, justice and equality in this country. This massacre took place based on a cooperation between Turkey and ISIS.”

Calling for participation in actions and events, Tuncer added that justice can only be served on the streets.
